This trip log of the MS Malmo charter details the incredible wildlife encounters around Svalbard in August 2015 including 25 polar bear sightings. Now we have satellites and airplanes and a far better idea whether the ice is coming or going. For that reason I cannot, for the life of me, understand why the MS Malmo went plowing into the thick ice east of Svalbard.

The summer 2014, MS Malmö joined MS Origo and successfully made her first season in Svalbard as an expedition ship. MS Malmö is a homely ship of maritime historical dignity, already loved by many.She is decorated in a classic style with an old fashioned Captain´s lounge and beautiful wooden decks.

The ship is on Arctic tour with Climate Change documentary film team, and tourists, concerned with Climate Change and melting Arctic ice. Mal­mö in the ice The­re are 35 % less ice in the who­le Arc­tic Oce­an than usu­al (a term that will most likely have to be re-defi­ned soon), but in Sval­bard, ice con­di­ti­ons are more as they used to be in ear­lier years.
